Andy Lau helps to get the Gov to fund Asian Academy Awards

This is a long time coming, so we’ll see in March if we can really launch an Asian Academy Awards in Hong Kong.

Thanks to Andy Lau Tak-Wah, who convinced the HK Gov to help fund The Asian Film Awards to help promote the Hong Kong International Film Festival, the local film industry and Hong Kong with HK$5 million which should match what the HKIFF brings in. Check out the site here – the usual suspects are in line for the nominations across the region: Curse of the Golden Flower and Exiled are the HK entries. The Host from Korea is there, so why no Death Note from Japan?

Oh and look who’s a nominee for Best Actor – why it’s Andy Lau Tak-Wah for A Battle of Wits.

Cinema! Apparently some critics think its like a porno, but the relationship stories makes it a “real movie”
