Stephen Chow: Shopping Mall Hustle?
Hong Kong’s Biggest Star is Becoming Hong Kong’s Property Tycoon!

Arguably the biggest movie star in Hong Kong today, thanks to the unprecedented success of Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle has only added to the amazing success of actor/comedian Stephen Chow Sing-Chi.
Chow has just wrapped shooting on what is sure to be his next hit film, the sci-fi encounter A HOPE and is preparing Kung Fu Hustle 2. But what does he do when he’s not making movies? Why he’s a land tycoon of course.
Opening over the weekend on Granville Road in Tsim Sha Tsui is his new 70-plus shop trendy shopping mall called “gi” which Chow and some friends had bought the site in 2004 for HK$200 million. Sure to be a match to the Beverly Center and other trendy malls on the street. But wait - you can’t just rent a shop to say you have a shop in Stephen Chow’s mall - you have to sell “unique” products that promote Hong Kong’s local creativity which in turn promotes local entrepreneurship. They even have consignment boxes that you can sell your stuff for around HK$800-1200 a month.
While everyone loves rich people like Li Ka-Shing, its going to take a Stephen Chow doing something like this to promote Hong Kong’s youth. So while it seems to be a safe bet in an already trendy location, it’s nice to see one of HK’s son’s giving back in this way to the community. Better than Jackie Chan opening his sushi bars in Hong Kong, for sure.
Not to mention that Chow is reportedly holding a property portfolio valued at HK$1.5 billion - which you could argue is worth more than his movie career.
