An 80th anniversary celebration at Telford Plaza.

We are huge Tezuka Osamu fans - MORE than just the Walt Disney of Japan - Tezuka created Astro Boy, Kimba and Blackjack to name a few. An exhibition is showing at Telford Plaza Phase 1 in Kowloon Bay until the end of April featuring artwork, toys, collectibles and all kinds of cool knick-knacks that celebrate this important pioneer of Japanese pop culture.
Check out the site here (Chinese only) and check out the promotion going on at MTR for “Tezuka’s Heartful Life” Octopus watches. We’d buy them if they didn’t clash so much with our new Hogan shoes. We’ll go and do a photo report in the near future.

Another Western act on an Asian tour, another rumor.

Since Robert Smith and his band of old men are going to be in Japan and in Singapore there are rumors that The Cure - the original goth band - are looking to set a date here in Hong Kong….like July 30th.
We’ll see if this one pans out.

The doughnuts invade Kowloon side.

Krispy Kreme are opening a new store in Mong Kok on April 1st, this Sunday in the CTMA Centre on Sai Yeung Choi Street, yes that mall with all the action figures in it right off from Nathan Road.
If you buy 6 doughnuts from opening day till the 9th you can get another 6 for free. Even though many Hong Kongers think they are too sweet (and more expensive than their U.S. counterparts sell them for.) they seem to be a hit with the teenagers.

Hogan launches new store with Star Ferry Pier 7

Tod Group’s Hogan took over and transformed Star Ferry’s Central Pier No.7 into the ultimate hip party on Tuesday night.
Hogan launched their new Kowloon shop opening with a party at the top deck of the new Star Ferry Pier. The venue had good music, great decor, lots of free drinks and surrounded you with amazing lightbox display panels drawn by famous comic artist Howard Chaykin. Hogan debuted their new Spring collection of shiny metallic bags and biker style leather jackets suspended like objects of art. This season’s style is very metallic using lots of gold and silver on its bags and shoes. We think we even saw the star of Hannibal Rising there wearing one of the new Hogan jackets.

New survey tells us how we are.

Synovate surveyed 6000 Hong Kong people aged 16-54 and breaks down a whole lot of info about yours and mine habits. To no real shock one of the key points is that Hong Kong people love media of any kind:
• 75.8% read any newspaper
• 68.1% read paid dailies
• 28% read free dailies
• 50.9% read any magazine
• 98.4% have watched TV in the past week
• 63.3% have listened to the radio in the past week
• 56.8% have accessed the internet in the past week
It goes on to say more obvious stuff like women buy more luxury goods than men, more women then men like to shop and that 1/3 of the city owns a Playstation. Read the rest of the results here.

No mailbox limit as Yahoo! celebrates 10th birthday.

Just in case 2GB of FREE webmail isn’t enough for all those digital images you send to your friends, then you are in luck because in May, Yahoo! Mail goes unlimited:
As Yahoo! Mail approaches its 10-year anniversary, I’m the lucky one who gets to announce that we will begin offering everyone unlimited email storage starting in May 2007.
If you don’t use or haven’t looked at Yahoo! Mail in awhile you should, its the best free email if you need folders to organize your email and it all runs on nifty Ajax so it seems like it runs super fast like it’s on your desktop.
