French May in Hong Kong

It’s Paris in Causeway Bay.

frenchmay.jpg

For the month of May its the 15th Anniversary of “Le Fench May” in Hong Kong and there is a ton of interesting French things happening in town. You can check it all out on their website at Frenchmay.com but here are a few highlights:

        May 8 - Emilie Simon
May 10-23 - The Fantasy World of Jacques Demy
May 19 - French Wine Fair

And don’t miss the spiffy Eiffel Tower at Times Square from now until the end of May with a Retrospective exhibition at the 2/f Lobby. So get ready to load up on frog legs, baguette’s and people dressed up like Marie Antoinette for the whole of May. We are definitely à l’idée de faire.

Super Shopping at Emax

East Kowloon gets new mall.

emax.jpg

Emax is a 900,000 sq. ft of pure shopping power is taking over the top 8 floors at HITEC this Summer. Party goers, bowling enthusiasts and convention attendees will know about HITEC but now there are more reasons to go there.

Do we need another giant mall in Hong Kong? I guess we’ll find out - but this one is boasting a 30,000 sq ft. Game Centre including snooker zone, online gaming and interactive gaming zones. Even cooler is that the mall will have Segway’s speeding around.

This is obviously a throwdown by the HITEC people to keep conventioneers coming to their place rather than go to HKCEC or Macau. We’ll definitely have a look when it opens.

Emax site is here.

Limited time only, hop over to any Hong Kong Marks and Spencer and when you buy 2 selected men or women’s casual tops you’ll get a third one free. That is how I understand 2-for-1 to work these days, anyways.

List of HK M&S locations here. And click here for a quick and neat background of M&S, did you know that M&S has 450 stores in the UK and 192 internationally and that the one in HK is wholly-owned by them and not a franchisee? Yes, go shopping now with more knowledge of the place you are shopping in!

How to Use ButterBoom RSS Feeds

A 3 1/2 minute video will tell you.

rss.jpg

While we do have some RSS feed subscribers I know that RSS is not yet very popular in Hong Kong. I guess not enough Chinese-language sites have feeds and there aren’t enough of them that you would need an RSS reader. But in case you are wondering what those orange RSS buttons are all over this site and also what those buttons mean in your Yahoo! Mail and Gmail watch the video above to get a quick and visual guide to RSS and then start using our RSS feed buttons on the side to get started.

FON WiFi in Hong Kong

12,000 members in Hong Kong.

fon.jpg

Hong Kong is about to explode this Summer with WiFi connectivity everywhere. Spain-based FON recently let us know about a partnership with U.S.-based Time Warner Cable allowing their subscribers to use FON services around the world for free. More interesting is that FON has 12,000 subscribers in Hong Kong already. The cool thing about FON is once you buy that wireless router you see above for HK$119 at any of these stores, all your WiFi is free providing you can find another FON user which is easy from this interactive map. Hey, look someone at 71 Caine Road in the Mid-Levels has it and someone on 8 Robinson Road has it too making the Central Mid-Levels a very hot spot for WiFi. You need to check out this map.

This Summer we understand that a leading Telco in Hong Kong will unleash a huge free WiFi network in Hong Kong to go alongside the Gov’s $200 million roll-out in all the Gov places (libraries, city halls etc.) so if you are shopping for a new laptop or mobile phone make sure its WiFi ready because soon Hong Kong will be a truly wired city.

Hong Kong Wine Country

Read all about it so you sound like you know about wine.

wine.jpg

Everyone loves wine. We’re drinking it right now as we type this - but I have no real idea of which one to drink other than what friends recommend or buy for me. This U.S. site called OpenBottles is a wine community where people review and discuss all types of wine. Its easy to search and in my 10-minutes of reading through the site I learned something new about California wine. Its a great bluffer site as well to read just before you head out for a wine testing in Admiralty.
