Cheap camcorder for the casual online video producer.

The Flip is a new low-priced video camera and the kind of killer-app that will allow people who cannot afford a real video camera (as well as making it easy to connect to your PC) a chance to make themselves into the next YouTube Idol. While the device is pedestrian compared to camcorders you can buy at Broadway or Fortress it does signal something big.
Developed with Internet video sharing software integrated into the device, Flip Video is the first camcorder to seamlessly upload directly to YouTube and other online video sharing sites. Available today at major retailers nationwide — in time for giving gifts to moms, dads and grads — Flip Video camcorders capture life’s spontaneous moments, no matter where or when they occur. The camcorder retails at US$119.99 for the 30-minute model and US$149.99 for the 60-minute model.
Once this catches on you will see similar items coming out of China and Taiwan that will not doubt be cheaper and have a greater capacity. This is the kind of thing that will inspire the next big wave in content generation that will make actors, reporters and reality show stars out of just about anyone. And with free online video editing sites like Jumpcut.com; for better or worse get ready for it.

Save $20 at Madame Tussauds by voting.

From now till May 13 – if you go to the Madame Tussauds website site and vote on what they are calling the “Celebrity Choice for this Summer” you can get a $20 coupon off an adult ticket price when you visit the museum at The Peak. I think the Gigi Leung Fan Club will have a say on who the winner is, perhaps.
I guess they want to see who you think they should give the wax treatment to next. Some of them are quite good and some are quite off from our last visit there. I hope they have a Halowe’en party in that space this October.

What we think about Spidey’s third outing.

Does it really matter what we – or any reviewer, for that matter – say about Spider-Man 3? You’re going to have to see it for yourself.
Ah, but if you really want to know what we thought….
UPDATE: Sony Pictures is reporting yesterday’s opening day of Spider-Man 3 was the biggest opening for a movie ever in Hong Kong. Even bigger than Aquaman. It pulled in $7.5 million in ONE DAY. Beating previous opening day champ Kung Fu Hustle.

Ok this one is 100% happening, but…

There is good news and bad news about this one. Avril Lavigne is truly coming to Hong Kong on May 3rd – yes that is tomorrow. She is playing HITEC at 8pm, but the bad news of course is that it is not a public concert, and not a full show – just a one hour showcase “party.” She is slipping through town for a sponsored visit that is being paid for by Meko (check the ad here) and they and others are giving out tickets to their customers and contest winners as well as MTV, Yahoo and Milk magazine.
I’m sure if she gets a warm enough welcome she will be back later this year for a full concert (we hear in August). We hope to be able to get in to Thursday’s show and will share what we see on Friday’s postings.
