Wearable PSP Recharger

Brings new meaning to “wearing a power bracelet!”

psprecharger.jpg

Another great find from Akihabara News, and no doubt we will see in Hong Kong at all the game and computer malls soon is this amazing wrist recharger for your Playstation Portable or your Nintendo DS and mobile phones:

What about having the possibility to give up to 28h of extra juice to your DS lite, or 4.5h to your PSP while on the go? Well this is exactly what the Charger Bracelet from Thanko is supposed to do in a very nifty way, since our battery must be used as a bracelet watch.

Thanko is one of the most creative companies making crazy useless tech gear. We love them, and you can see other crazy tech gear like USB heated slippers and gold bullion USB drives at their English site here.

Scary Movies: 28 Weeks Later

Thursday. 25 October. 2007. 9:39 am

Halloween Movie Countdown Part 3.

28weekslater.jpg

We loved the first part 28 Days Later, but that was more a cerebral take on the zombie genre (i.e. the ‘normal’ humans were more horrific than the monsters). This year’s 28 Weeks Later picks up from the end of the first one and keeps going exactly 28 weeks later.

If you saw the first one you know its not really zombies, but the rage virus that is infecting people and turning them into, well, zombie-like creatures. The difference here is that the infected can move at normal human speeds, so you can’t job your way around slow moving zombies, as the amazing first 10 minutes of this movie will attest to. Another good thing is the lack of familiar actors, with the exception of Robert Carlyle, the mostly unknown cast is great for horror movies because you never know who is getting killed next.

We don’t want to speak too much more about this movie to protect the thrills, but its definitely cued up for play again this week as one freaky movie that will have you jumping out of your seat every 5 minutes.

Gundam-themed Mobile Phone

Thursday. 25 October. 2007. 9:06 am

The anime phone you can’t live without.

zakuphone.jpg

Ok, technically that Zaku head is the container but the phone is that eye. From our buddies at Akihabara News:

SoftBank sells in Japan a Sharp phone called the FULL FACE 913SH with a beautiful 2.8 Screen, using the ASV and Aquos technology, as well as a 1Seg TV tuner. This morning, All Mobile Suite Gundam had the pleasure to discover a new version on this Fullface 913SH, wearing the ZAKU II Colors, and with a larger LCD screen of 3″ ( instead of 2.8 ), as well as 1GB of internal memory.

We wish more this kind of stuff would be here in Hong Kong. Its crazy but its a great talk piece at parties.

Wireless iPod Speakers

Wednesday. 24 October. 2007. 9:51 am

Truly wireless, well maybe except for the power cable.

ipodspeakers.jpg

Griffin Technology thinks its created the wireless iPod speaker system with its new Evolve Speakers via Crave:

How’d Griffin do it? By including rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in the speakers themselves. Once they’re fully charged (just sit them on the base station’s cradle), Griffin says they can be placed anywhere within 150 feet. And because they communicate via RF, walls and obstructions shouldn’t pose a problem–adjoining rooms and nearby outdoor spaces (patios, decks) are fair game. Griffin says the fully charged speakers should deliver 10 hours of playing time before needing another juice-up. And the detached speakers aren’t limited to what your iPod can play; the base station’s line-in cradle accepts a stereo input from virtually any source. (Yes, the base station still needs a power cord–but that’s the only wire that the system should require if you’re listening to your iPod.)

At US$300 a set, its not a bad way to go.

Scary Movie: The Descent

Wednesday. 24 October. 2007. 9:10 am

Halloween Movie Countdown Part 2: British chicks and slimy monsters.

descent.jpg

This is a good image to wake up to in the morning, isnt it?

The Descent came out in 2005 from the U.K. and was a great take on the “monster in the cave” movie. 6 women, who apparently like to go and explore caves, run into a race of freaky mutant people that, of course, want to eat them. This movie has more creepy thrills and gore than usual and the usage of an all female cast as the heroes instead of the victims is a nice change of pace, and of course what better setting for a horror movie but inside a dark cave with no light fighting creatures who can see you but you can’t see them. But in the course of the movie, you ask the question who are the monsters: the creatures or the women themselves?

Freaky stuff for sure and good to watch with a group of girls, Sex and the City this is not!

Scary Movies: Planet Terror

Tuesday. 23 October. 2007. 9:55 am

Halloween Movie Countdown Part 1.

planetterror.jpg

As we run up to Hallowe’en next Wednesday, and seeing as its our favorite time of year, we decided to post a scary movie a day to get everyone into the mood. These are movies that have come out over the past few years, since we’re sure you’ve all seen The Omen and The Shining so we’ll leave things pre-2000 off this little list.

Today’s pick is a movie from this year called Planet Terror. It was the Robert Rodriguez half of Grindhouse - a tribute to B-movie exploitation film he made in conjunction with Quentin Tarantino. Super crazy, over-the-top plot, lots of hypodermic needles, kids with guns, flesh-hungry zombies, bad acting, gross special effects and a stripper/stand-up comedian who loses her leg and has it replaced with a machine gun to help her mow down bloodthirsty zombies. There is some kind of weird gas in the air turning people into disgusting blimp-like monster zombies. This film is actually more disgusting than it is scary but we thought we’d ease you into the really scary ones, and a nice and gross cameo by Bruce Willis. We’re usually pretty desensitized by seeing bloody gore on screen but even this one had us watching through our fingers - especially the castration scenes. Ouch!

Planet Terror’s official line is “A fun zombie film that busts at the seams with gross special effects, amazing action, and deliciously over-the-top moments, as gun-legged Cherry Darling (rose McGowan) and one man wrecking crew El Wray try to save the world from a horde of flesh-eating zombies” if that doesn’t get you down to the DVD shop, nothing will.

Part 2 of our Hallowe’en Movie Countdown tomorrow, until then watch 10 minutes of Planet Terror below:
