3G iPhone Months Away from Hong Kong?

Friday. 28 March. 2008. 9:11 am

The iPhone rumours are reaching a fevered pitch!

3giphone 3G iPhone Months Away from Hong Kong?

We’ve actually been getting emails from readers asking us how to buy iPhones in Hong Kong since it launched. And to them we say “Hold on! New version is coming!”

We’ve been tracking the 3G iPhone rumours through different web sources and this one is yet another, but it sounds very promising, considering the source:

Apple may have ordered a second round of 10 million iPhones based on the 3G network, according to Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney. Mr. Dulaney, who follows the iPhone for the research firm, based that on rumors he’s become aware of in Asia.

In a phone interview, Mr. Dulaney told the iPod Observer that he believes Apple has ordered a second round, amounting to 10 million more units, based on what he’s heard in Asian circles. This is in addition to the ten million first generation iPhones that Apple has said it will sell by the end of 2008.

Mr. Dulaney also speculated that that the so-called 3G iPhone will use an Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display in the new iPhone. That would lead to a thinner phone and lower power consumption.

It was also surmised by Mr. Dulaney that Apple didn’t do as well as it expected in Europe with the 2.7G/EDGE network phone, hence the big movement to the 3G network iPhone.

And the big iPhone news today is that New York is sold out of iPhones, that is helping swell up the new 3G iPhone rumors.

Will Hong Kong finally see an official launch in June or July 2008? And what’s this rumor from Kevin Rose, about the new 3G iPhone having a video-chat function?

The next big Apple event will be the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9th, so we expect the announcement to happen then and the product to be made available shortly after.
