Lane Crawford and HK PolyU award 3 talented designers.

As expected, the collaborated between Lane Crawford and Hong Kong Polytechnic University for “Designers of Tomorrow” has uncovered some amazing talent. Three designers were selected and awarded the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize for the Most Promising Young Talent Award.
Third prize went to Cheung Man Yee, Hyphen. Her collection Eternal Organic drew inspiration from the curves of a mango. Minimal use of fabric, and structural layering resulted in a peaceful aesthetic which very much echoed organic fashion (above).

Tam Kim Kui bagged the second prize with his Arternative Fashion. Dresses made out of plastic bags and liquid crystals make for an unusual statement, staying true to the designer’s belief that fashion should not be bound by a single style rule.

First place went to Tang Mei Yan’s Chartaceous Meteoroid collection. Inspired by the traditional lantern, this collection took on an ethereal feel. To showcase the beauty of Chinese tradition, the designer created a beautiful dress that seemed to be made out of tiny lanterns.
Butterboom congratulates these talented winners.

Want to know where to get your eyebrows shaped?

Looks from fall 09 runways. Fom top left, Thakoon, Anna Sui,Versace and Bottega Vaneta
We take a peak at what’s shaping up for fall 09 with regards to make-up. Following spring/summer trend of lightly groomed brows, less is more for fall. Brows are lightly groomed with gel or filled in lightly with a brow powder at Thakoon, Versace and Bottega.
Eyebrows frame your face. Leave it too bushy and you’ll look unpolished. Over pluck and you either run the risk of having a permanently angry or surprised expression on your face. Which is why enlisting the help of professionals at least for the first time might be the way to go to get your brows in shape. After the first time, you can easily maintain the shape by removing any stray hair growth with a handy tweezers.
Here are a list of places that offer brow shaping in Hong Kong.

Western Market turned into 1930′s Shanghai for the night.

Digeo and Shui Jing Fang Distillery threw a party to introduce their new creation to the world in Hong Kong. Premium vodka, Shanghai White is the product of a collaboration, the first of its kind between Diageo and Shui Jing Fang, producers of premium baijiu. Sheung Wan’s Western Market was turned into classic 1930’s Shanghai filled with Cheongsam-wearing hostesses and pinstriped zoot suit men throwing dice at gambling tables.
Shanghai White is crafted using Russian vodka making techniques mixed with Shui Jing Fang’s 600 years of baiju (白酒) distilling knowledge to create a new vodka taste. The Shanghai White bottle is a piece of art in itself. The bottle is adorned with cherry blossom flowers and 1930s Art Deco imagery of old Shanghai on the indented hexagonal water well shaped bottle bottom. This well pays tribute to the well of the legendary 14th century Shui Jing Fang distillery that is said to produced the most pristine water for brewing high quality spirit.
Shanghai White will be available initially in Hong Kong at the Intercontinental Hotel, Landmark Mandarin, Tonic and the W Hotel.

Katie Holme’s favourite bag.

Picture from stylefrizz.com
It seems that the Paraty has become Katie Holmes favourite bag. She’s been spotted carrying it all over town. Spotted during the fall 08 runway and in Chloe’s spring 09 ad campaign, it has finally made its way to Hong Kong.
The Chloe’s Paraty Bag features exotic python skin and comes in rich colors like maroon, plum, grey and classic black. The Paraty has a distinctive silhouette with rolled leather that outlines its shape. Chic and practical, the Paraty comes with two kinds of handles- a long strap that lets you sling the bag ala messenger, and 2 sturdy shoulder straps that you can carry whichever way you like.
