Marrakech’s legendary hotel reopens after major restoration.
La Mamounia is one of Marrakech’s most legendary hotels that was recently restored to the tune of US176 million under the watchful eye of acclaimed designer Jacques Garcia. Located close to the Souk and Madina with views of Koutoubia Mosque and the Atlas Mountains, La Mamounia is as Winston Churchill said in 1943 to Franklin D. Roosevelt; “the most lovely spot in the whole world”. It’s also the hotel that Carrie Bradshaw and her girlfriends stay in during Sex & the City 2 when they holidayed in Abu Dhabi (the move was actually filmed in Marrakesh.)

Martine Sitbon, recently in Hong Kong as a guest judge for the HK Young Designer Competition held earlier this year, started her fashion career in 1985 when she presented her first collection in Paris for Spring/Summer 1986. She was Creative Director at Chloe in 1988 and designed for the house for nine seasons before starting Rue du Mail in 2006. Named after the address of its headquarters at 5 Rue du Mail, Paris’ right bank offers Martine Sitbon’s unique vision of fashion – a mix of strong, feminine Parisian clothes with an urban edge.
With a fashion career that spans over 26 years in the business, we caught up with her to address the business of fashion, what she thinks it takes to make it, and her tips on how to look instantly stylish.
