Who Will Lead Jimmy Choo?
Co-founder Tamara Mellon could be pulling a Tom Ford.
Big changes are in line at Jimmy Choo as the company’s co-founder and chief creative officer Tamara Mellon has announced her departure next month. It’s believed to have been spurred by the company’s US$500 million acquisition by Labelux. Added to this, CEO Joshua Schulman has also resigned from his role at Jimmy Choo and will leave next year.
A label under Mellon’s own name would come as no surprise to anyone, although no official statement has been released at this time. Shulman has also insisted that his decision to leave was independent from Mellon’s, telling WWD that; “We’re not going off together [to pursue a new project].” With a personal fortune worth an estimated US$240 million, Mellon’s entrepreneurial mindset and high profile were key assets to Jimmy Choo, especially since she was the face of the company and the brand became synonymous with style under Mellon’s 15 year reign.
Although it’s the end of an era, Mellon’s talent will undoubtedly bring her to even higher places. Here’s hoping we can say the same about the changes at Jimmy Choo…
