This year, the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) have enlisted Donatella Versace to present a new award at the Asian Film Awards (AFA) to be held on 22 March 2010. The award is very appropriately the Best Costume Designer Award to honour the work of Asian costume designer in cinema.

We reported about Tom Ford’s debut movie, A Single Man, way back in September 2009 when it was screened on the film festival circuit. Since then, it has won various awards from the recent Golden Globes to Best Actor for Colin Firth at the Venice Film Festival.

His last and most memorable Spring/Summer 2010 collection has been communicated through a futuristic formula full of aquatic creatures and computer-generated couture art. Titled Plato’s Atlantis , the collection comprises brightly coloured prints inspired by butterflies, moths, beetles and giant squid – engineered sea-reptile prints and designs that mimick the skin of sharks and dolphins.
