YouTube, National Geographic and producer Ridley Scott put together a film where thousands of people from around the world filmed themselves on July 24, 2010 and were then edited into a 90-minute snapshot film called Life in a Day.

The film opens in Hong Kong on Thursday, August 4th and is the kind of film that is extraordinary in that its real people from all over the world showing glimpses into their lives and expertly cut together and with an inspiring score.

If you’re stuck in the office at 4pm and not one of the numerous Royal Wedding parties happening around Hong Kong, don’t worry – Google has you covered.

The Royal Household has announced that footage of the entire ceremony will be live streamed on their official YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/theroyalchannel.

The broadcast will begin at Hong Kong time at 4:00pm (10:00am BST) on Friday, April 29, and will follow the wedding procession, marriage ceremony at Westminster Abbey and balcony kiss. Alongside the live stream, The Royal Channel will also feature live blog commentary of the event to give timely updates and insights as the day unfolds. For those of you in different time zones, the footage will be shown in its entirety directly following the event and will be available in full on the site to view at any time.

While millions will be in London for the big day, it’s clear that people around the world have wedding fever. Google search trends show that in addition to the UK and the US, the top ten countries searching for “royal wedding” include places like Singapore and the Philippines.

More than 50 years ago, the marriage of The Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, and Antony Armstrong- Jones was the first royal wedding to be broadcast on television and had over 20 million viewers. This one is already heralded as the first of the Internet age, where for the first time in thousands of years of royal history, the moment will be captured online and preserved forever.

Google’s involvement in the royal wedding:

• The Royal Channel: On the day of the wedding, visitors to The Royal Channel on YouTube will see a live stream of the BBC broadcast footage of the wedding and a live blog will accompany the footage. Following the initial live streaming, it will be replayed in its entirety (2:00p – 6:00p BST). A variety of video highlights will also be posted as soon as possible. www.youtube.com/theroyalchannel.

• Google Earth 3D: Apart from the entire royal procession route, 3D buildings in the Central London area around famous landmarks like Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, London Eye and British Museum are also expanded. Also, 3D trees for St James Park, Green Park, Buckingham Palace Gardens, and Hyde Park are added as well.

• Google App Engine: Unlike many previous Royal Weddings, this event will have its own website – www.officialroyalwedding2011.org which is hosted on Google App Engine.

Warner Bros. Hong Kong is releasing the new Drew Barrymore and Justin Long romantic comedy Going the Distance on September 9th – but YOU will get a chance to win a pair of tickets to see it on Tuesday, August 31st.

Fashion labels sees the potential in bigger screen iPad devices to showcase their offerings in high-resolution  graphics and video format.  With the iPad scheduled to launch soon, Armani Exchange is one of the first to announce their device-optimized version of their site with content tailored for the iPad.  The iPad may have inadvertently launch Fashion Videos, pretty much like what MTV did for music videos.

While the Armani Exchange Stylepad is not actually an iPad app, its an interactive digital portfolio that allows users to flip through pages of the AX Stylepad featuring Armani Exchange’s latest sexy “Bodies of Summer” campaign.

Users can check out the summer ad campaign featuring models Irina Shayk , Marlon Teixeira and Clint Mauroon location on the beaches of Caico, choose music and watch video interviews of the models and create your own DIY ad, (we’re not quite sure why this would be interesting but why not?).

This summer, young and old fans of the Disney-Pixar animated film Toy Story 3 can catch a very special exhibit staged right here in Hong Kong. The Disney Toy Story Exhibit will feature exclusive Disney-Pixar behind the scenes sketches and production art, as well as another exhibit called ALIEN INVASION “When Aliens Meet Artists” that will showcase unique Aliens re-imagined by Disney and Pixar artists, designers and illustrators handpainted on do-it-yourself art toy collectible figures.

Yes, we know its not fashion news, but we think its a great campaign.

This exhibition in Times Square is a great canvas for various artists and designers to communicate with a dynamic Hong Kong audience. Some attractions that will be featured in the exhibit include the set for Andy’s room, rare footage of the video production as well as a display of the world’s largest Buzz Lightyear statue. Thirty different handpainted aliens by different artists will also be making an appearance along with collaborations from Japan’s top trendsetters like Secret Base, Bounty Hunter, DEVILROBOTS, Hysteric Mini and Whiz.

Sex and the City 2 is finally opening this Thursday in Hong Kong and Warner Bros. HK got the party started last night with a celebrity-filled gala premiere at Times Square in Causeway Bay.

The red carpet was rolled out and the hottest ladies in the city showed up to see Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda as they travel the world, find love and show-off their latest stylish outfits.

“Girls don’t play electric guitar”

…Is what a community college teacher tells a young Joan Jett at a private guitar class. So what’s any self-respecting punk-rock Suzi Quatro-fan to do? That’s right, start your own band!

The Runaways is the latest music biopic to come to Hong Kong – and if you are a fan of these kinds of movies (The Doors, Great Balls of Fire, La Bamba, Walk the Line etc.) then you’ll love the story of how a bunch of girls with tons of mascara and even more attitude became rock and roll legends!

And you know you’re in for a rock-and-roll coming of age story when the opening scene of the movie shows the lead having her first period!

With fantastic performances from Michael Shannon as Kim Fowley – the slimy band manager to Kristin Sewart’s take-no-shit Joan Jett to a true coming-of-age role for Dakota Fanning who is now 16 years old and the same age as the character she plays onscreen – Cherie Curry, the lead singer of The Runaways. Strutting around on stage in lingerie and getting doped up in an airplane bathroom on route to Japan – Tom Cruise’s little daughter in War of the Worlds seems like lifetime ago (granted we haven’t seen her in 2006′s Hounddog though)

All actors bring it – the story is really quite your typical rock and roll biopic, girls get plucked from obscurity, find a unique selling proposition and have the right look at the right time and then fall down the rabbit hole of fame and drugs until it destroys the band from within – vodka-fuelled waterguns and all!

Yes, that is Dakota Fanning on the left in the photo above!

2 things we liked, that didn’t fall into cliche: the band manager didn’t try to rape any of them and there was no hunky boy they were fighting over – the only fighting was amongst themselves and the love scenes were very beautifully shot of the female-on-female interaction kind.

One of the best lines in the movie about rock fame comes from Michael Shannon’s character just as the band is about to come to a boiling point: When Cherie reads a terrible quote in a magazine that Fowley says about her, he explains it as “rock press” and because its so controversial the article is twice as long and half of it is about her. Definitely remember that next time you read about some outlandish thing an actor or musician has said in the press.

Hats off to first-time film director Floria Sigismondi – who’s made music videos for The White Stripes, Muse, David Bowie and The Cure – hence a very real and grungy look to the whole film.

Everyone should know Joan Jett and the Blackhearts from the song that is still a rock anthem today “I Love Rock and Roll” and this is the story of where she came from, while mostly about Dakota Fanning’s character and her family life – it’s about Jett and Currie as they take on the male dominated scene at the time and make their mark in rock history.

Looking forward a Go-Go’s movie now! But who would play Belinda Carlisle? if only Jessica Simpson could act!

If you haven’t made plans yet to visit ART HK: Hong Kong International Art Fair on right now at the HKCEC you should look into it now.

Here are more photos from the exhibit that features over 150 galleries from 29 countries presenting some of the globe’s top international artists.

ART HK continues to push boundaries with displays of experimental art, in addition to video and installation works, that bring art off the wall and diversify viewer experiences. The work of emerging Japanese artist, Noriko Yamaguchi, is one example. Exploring technology, mythology and feminism through bodily transformation and endurance, Yamaguchi camouflages her body with a variety of striking materials to create a second skin, a visual spectacle that was a highlight of the Fair.

A compelling selection of renowned Japanese artists is on show, including Yoshitomo Nara at Marianne Boesky Gallery, who leads the generation of Japanese “New Pop” artists that rose to prominence in the 1990s. Returning for a second year to the show, Nara will be showcasing works such as Rock ‘n Roll the Roll, composed of acrylic on wood, among other pieces that exemplify his work as a reflection of the memory of childhood through the use of seemingly innocent children and pets.

ART HK is organised by Asian Art Fairs Ltd, a joint venture between three of the world’s leading events companies. Their individual portfolios include initiating 13 International Contemporary Art Fairs in London and New York.

The Fair is open from noon until 8pm tonight, 7pm (29 May) and 5pm (30 May).
