Venice never looked so good or so romantic.

British musician, Jack Peñate reviews the Palazzina G in Venice.
Venice: the land of elaborate masks, crimson coats, gilded gondolas, and most importantly, love. Mask? Check. Red mac? Sure. Gondola? Yessir. Love? Pass.
I’ve got a 6’2”, baseball-capped, bearded, tattooed friend called Gabriel along for the ride.

The original Mr Smith James Lohan reviews Establishment Hotel.

James Lohan reviews Establishment Hotel, Sydney, Australia
It’s 6am, Sydney time, and Mrs Smith and I have just arrived in the city’s CBD, a little exhausted, despite the generous flat-bed upgrade on our flight from London. We are here on a ‘bleisure’ trip – business mixed with pleasure – starting with the latter at Establishment Hotel. Approaching the giant metal front door, tucked away in a cul de sac, I notice a few weary revelers leaving Establishment’s basement nightclub, Tank. They look about as fresh as we are after our very different all-night session.

High-flying fashionista, Jo Soh reviews Amangalla.

Jo Soh reviews Amangalla, Galle, Sri Lanka
I’m practically semi-conscious by the time our car finally pulls up in front of Amangalla. Three hours have passed since we first stumbled into Colombo Airport at sleep o’clock in the morning. Mr Smith and I had shot each other quizzical glances as we passed through the duty-free stores, stocked with a surreal display of household white goods: forget cigarettes and whiskey; here folks score fridges and washing machines when they step off the plane.

The queen of shops reviews Petra Segreta Resort & Spa.

Mary Portas reviews Petra Segreta Resort & Spa, Sardinia, Italy.
We leave the delightful village of San Pantaleo and begin our approach to Petra Segreta Resort and Spa. A winding dirt road snakes through scrubland strewn with hulking volcanic rocks. My Blackberry shows no reception. Commencing a vertiginous climb, we follow teeny tiny signs directing us to Petra Segreta Resort and Spa high in the hills above the Costa Smerelda.

Design doyenne to the stars reviews Château de Bagnols.

Ilse Crawford reviews Château de Bagnols, Beaujolais, France.
For more than a decade, I had dreamt of the Château de Bagnols. When I was editor of Elle Decoration, I saw incredible pictures that lodged in my imagination, images from childhood: Beauty and the Beast, Bluebeard’s Castle, The Princess and the Pea… The extravagant interiors looked about as far from the idea of a boutique hotel, and from the modern design that filled the pages of my magazine, as was possible. Intensely beautiful, the pictures that struck me most were of its beds, which simply beggared belief – insane four-posters piled high with mattresses and hung with heavy red-brocade drapes or antique silks. This was the stuff of the films – of Peter Greenaway and Luchino Visconti. However, it was a dream, and I never went.

Irish milliner to the stars reviews Château de Massillan.

Milliner Philip Treacy reviews Château de Massillan, Vaucluse, Provence, France
I was intrigued and inspired by the idea of staying in a château built for Diane de Poitiers, Henry II’s lifelong consort – a lady renowned for her beauty, intellect and sense of aesthetics. It’s fair to expect a small luxury hotel to be charming, but nothing could have prepared us for the dramatic sight of the Château de Massillan’s starkly beautiful proportions, revealed at the end of a suitable driveway leading into leafy grounds. The Richard Long-style lavender bed in front of the main entrance added to the majestic impression, as well as reminding us well and truly that we were in Vaucluse.
