Celebrating 10 years of jewelery and accessories in Hong Kong.

Folli Follie, the jewelery and accessories brand from Athens is celebrating their 10th anniversary in Hong Kong. A favorite amongst Hong Kongers for their fashionable and luxe pieces that are priced in the middle range, Folli Follie has hit on a success formula with 14 stores in Hong Kong. Here’s a bit of industry news, did you know that the group had recently well not so recently (in 2006) acquired Links of London too.
To commemorate their 10 successful years in Hong Kong, they’ve come up with a limited edition watch and bracelet collection that symbolizes the fusion of Greek and Chinese cultures with dramatic effects. The watch features three dials layered on top of each other in reverence to ancient Greek architecture and geometric lines decoration inspired by antique Chinese windows. Marking its decade long presence in Hong Kong is the symbolic “X” marking on the face of the bracelet, now that’s pretty neat!
Available in black and white with finishes and lines in white or rose gold and will set you back HK$5,115 a pop.

A brief glimpse into H&M’s upcoming collection.

As we posted back in April, H&M and Comme des Garçons are working on a special line together to be launched at H&M stores around the world this Fall. And above you are getting your first look at the collection:
The H&M collection includes a range of tailored jackets, many deconstructed, along with cropped pants, baggy shorts and a variety of skirts in stretch wool. On the perkier side are polkadot knits in jersey or merino wool, colorful shirts—some with dots—and a “showpiece” coatdress decorated here and there with dense Victorian ruffles. There are also accessories and a unisex perfume with notes of cedar and patchouli but, alas, no children’s wear, which H&M had promised when it announced the partnership this past April.
Look for this innovative collection at Hong Kong H&M stores in November. Read more about Rei Kawakubo’s design process on this collection here.

Spanish chain takes the lead over former #1 The Gap.

Zara has just surpassed The Gap, to become the biggest fashion retailer in the world. To put that in perspective The Gap has 3,100 stores and 150,000 employees around the world, but the US economic downturn has allowed the Spanish firm to take the lead. We like the Zara at the IFC Mall, but that is only one of the 6 stores they have in Hong Kong, 1 in Macau and there are 8 in Mainland China:
Inditex, Zara’s parent company, recorded a 9% increase in sales to €2.22bn (£1.7bn) in the first quarter of its financial year. It also benefited from the strength of the euro to edge ahead of Gap which saw its revenues fall by 10% and recorded sales of €2.17bn in the same period. The difference may be tiny, but Inditex claims it is significant: for the first time the Spanish group has inched past its American rival.
The group, whose high street store brand Zara has led the charge, hopes to consolidate its lead over rivals later in the year as it continues to expand overseas in spite of the economic downturn. It is three years since Inditex overtook H&M, to become the biggest clothing retailer in Europe. But the rapid growth is nothing new to a company which first started in 1963 in the bedroom of chairman Amancio Ortega’s home in Galicia, northwest Spain, making bathrobes.
