Hong Kong to get its ‘W’ sneak preview in time for Olympics.

As most hotel-fans know, worldwide luxury hotel brand W Hotels Worldwide will opens its whatever/whenever W Hotel doors in Hong Kong (finally) this September at 1 Austin Road West, Kowloon Station.
To catch the wave of Olympic publicity though, the W Hong Kong will open a selection of rooms in early August, about one week prior to the commencement of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. It’ll no doubt be for visiting celebrities and officials to test drive the facilities.
Definitely one of the most anticipated hotel opening in Hong Kong mostly because Hong Kong doesn’t have many boutique hotels and the W Hong Kong will mark the W brand’s third hotel in Asia, bringing with it W’s 10-year tradition of innovative design, signature amenities and warm, whimsical style. The W will continue to expand in Asia with plans to open hotels and retreats in Bangkok, Guangzhou, Macao-Studio City, Shanghai and Yokohama.

More information from W themselves, because the amenities are just so amazing that Hong Kong residents will want to spend a weekend there:

Post your photo and you could win trips courtesy of Zuji.

While Oasis might have stiffed you, online airfare site, Zuji is giving away free trips. A photo contest that is full swing now and is very dependent on you and your friends to win. Go to this site www.gottagoback.com and sign-up at Zuji, then upload your photo and see how many users think you have a great photo. The one with the most stars wins. Doesn’t get simpler than that, huh?
As we checked just now, it’s still anyone’s game. Just under 1000 photos and none of Osaka, so you still have a chance (and by looking at the quality of the photos posted, anyone with 2 eyes and autofocus can win). Just remember us when you are looking for someone to fill that extra seat (you can’t see us but we have the bunny ears hand sign up and a cheeky grin on).

Got burnt by the Oasis? BA is here to help.

With the amazing HK$1 billion Oasis Hong Kong bankruptcy that just happened, leaving 700 employees jobless and 30,000 travelers screwed - its nice to see that someone had the pull to lend a hand. British Airways is picking up some of these poor traveler’s woes:
British Airways is pleased to offer an alternative for Oasis Hong Kong passengers wishing to travel home, in response to today’s announcement that Oasis Hong Kong has ceased flying operations.
British Airways is offering customers booked to travel with Oasis a one way fare of HKD1,250
Tickets are available for purchase by contacting British Airways directly on 2822 9000. Customers must present their Oasis ticket confirmation and ID to British Airways’ Hong Kong office; 24/F, Jardine House, One Connaught Road, Central, Hong Kong.
No news at the BA Hong Kong site but sure if you call the number above they can help you out.
Cathay Pacific also has a deal but its filling up fast.
UPDATE: We just received this from British Airways:
Owing to an overwhelming response from Oasis passengers wishing to travel home, British Airways can confirm that all of its three daily flights to London Heathrow from Hong Kong are now fully booked for the remainder of April. Seats to Hong Kong from London remain available to Oasis passengers for HKD1,250.
In its continued commitment to see passengers return home, British Airways is pleased to announce that it is offering a one-way fare via Beijing or Shanghai for HKD2,500 (excluding taxes and surcharges) in its World Traveller cabin for all departures up to 30 April 2008, subject to availability.

The US$2.4 billion resort finally swings opens its doors.

It’s been years in the making, but The Venetian Macao (Yes, they spell it with an “o” not a “u”) opens today on schedule as the 27th casino in Macau. We posted about an early bird special earlier this month, but all 3,000 rooms are booked up for the rest of the month. But can they keep that momentum? We’ll bet that we’ll be privvy to more “Special Deals” in the months to come, but it will definitely be a weekend hotspot for Hong Kongers for the next few months with not only 850 gaming tables and over 4,000 slot machines but entertainment and fancy restaurants as well.
Also in Venetian news, the big tennis match between Roger Federer and Pete Sampras in November has been sold out in about 2 weeks time. Good job bringing in international sports superstars to get more Hong Kong people, and no doubt people from around the region, to come and have a look and spread the word of mouth about the new resort destination.
