Brunello Cucinelli Fall/Winter Collection

The new collection to hit Hong Kong evokes a 1920’s look.

brunello.jpg

Brunello Cucinelli is renowned for pioneering colored cashmere and has unleashed the Fall/Winter 2008-2009 collection in Hong Kong featuring models Jocelyn Luko and Mikki Yao. This season, the brand maintains its “total quality” principal by using the best materials featuring bright colors while incorporating modern designs.

More attention is paid to the details of the cut, one-pieces are made with both cashmere and reflective materials for example. Ladies’ skirts and long pants also utilize materials with hue-shifting properties, so that the addition of a short fur coat and other simple accessories readily bring out the playfulness and elegance of the feminine figure.

Have a look at this beautiful photo slideshow of the collection:

More details on the Autumn/Winter collection are below.

H&M Comme des Garçons Sneak Peek

A brief glimpse into H&M’s upcoming collection.

handmhongkong.jpg

As we posted back in April, H&M and Comme des Garçons are working on a special line together to be launched at H&M stores around the world this Fall. And above you are getting your first look at the collection:

The H&M collection includes a range of tailored jackets, many deconstructed, along with cropped pants, baggy shorts and a variety of skirts in stretch wool. On the perkier side are polkadot knits in jersey or merino wool, colorful shirts—some with dots—and a “showpiece” coatdress decorated here and there with dense Victorian ruffles. There are also accessories and a unisex perfume with notes of cedar and patchouli but, alas, no children’s wear, which H&M had promised when it announced the partnership this past April.

Look for this innovative collection at Hong Kong H&M stores in November. Read more about Rei Kawakubo’s design process on this collection here.

Zara is the Biggest Fashion Retailer

Spanish chain takes the lead over former #1 The Gap.

zara.jpg

Zara has just surpassed The Gap, to become the biggest fashion retailer in the world. To put that in perspective The Gap has 3,100 stores and 150,000 employees around the world, but the US economic downturn has allowed the Spanish firm to take the lead. We like the Zara at the IFC Mall, but that is only one of the 6 stores they have in Hong Kong, 1 in Macau and there are 8 in Mainland China:

Inditex, Zara’s parent company, recorded a 9% increase in sales to €2.22bn (£1.7bn) in the first quarter of its financial year. It also benefited from the strength of the euro to edge ahead of Gap which saw its revenues fall by 10% and recorded sales of €2.17bn in the same period. The difference may be tiny, but Inditex claims it is significant: for the first time the Spanish group has inched past its American rival.

The group, whose high street store brand Zara has led the charge, hopes to consolidate its lead over rivals later in the year as it continues to expand overseas in spite of the economic downturn. It is three years since Inditex overtook H&M, to become the biggest clothing retailer in Europe. But the rapid growth is nothing new to a company which first started in 1963 in the bedroom of chairman Amancio Ortega’s home in Galicia, northwest Spain, making bathrobes.

Hong Kong Women Have Retail Clout

New survey reveals HK women are the most financially independent in the region.

synovate.jpg

Not that this is anything new to Butterboom.com readers, but Synovate has released some new findings from a survey of 2,000 women they did across Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Malaysia from the ages of 15 to 64 across all income levels:

Eighty one percent of Hong Kong women can afford to pay for what they want without asking for money from their partner and 87% have at least an equal say on big ticket items, such as property and cars, according to recent survey by global market research company Synovate.

The Synovate survey revealed that while Hong Kong women were the most financially independent (81%), their mainland counterparts are not far behind (75%), followed by Singaporeans at 74%. Malaysian women are the least independent with only 42% confirming that they can afford to pay for what they want without asking for money from their partners or husbands.

While Hong Kong women only spend 11% of their monthly personal income on shopping, preferring to allocate a bigger proportion to savings and investments, mainland women spend over half of their income on shopping.
