Super-spy spoof remake smartens up Hong Kong on Thursday.
Get Smart (opening in Hong Kong this Thursday) is the new movie remake of the classic TV show we reported about here. And thanks to Warner Bros. we were able to give out some free tickets to the advance screening. So what did we think of all this? In the words of Maxwell Smart himself: “Missed it by, THAT, much!”
First, the good: For those not even remotely aware that this movie is based on a 1960’s TV series and are sold on the spy-comedy elements, then by all means it was a funny, exciting and well-casted Summer flick. Steve Carell plays a CONTROL analyst, that dreams of becoming a field agent, when an attack on Control leaves them agent-less, Max is promoted to 86 status and teams up with the veteran Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) against the evil of KAOS run by Terrence Stamp and, yes, the fat guy from Borat.
For all the site-gags, and spy-fun, it holds its own as a tribute to the TV show and making it its own. Great turns by The Rock and of course Carell’s co-star in Little Miss Sunshine, Alan Arkin who plays the Edward Platt role of The Chief, as perfect as the comedy stylings of the “cone of silence” itself.

Get Smart - the movie remake of the classic TV series starring Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, The Rock and Alan Arkin - opens in Hong Kong on August 7th, but Warner Bros. Hong Kong has allowed 10 lucky Butterboom readers to get free tickets to the advance preview screening on July 29th (next Tuesday) in Tai Koo Shing, Hong Kong side.

The Get Smart star is looking good after a very public break-up.
The Cut has a great piece on Anne Hathaway after her break-up with her con-man boyfriend last week, the primary thread is that Anne didn’t go down in the dumps but high-styled it up in all her recent public appearances:
Anne’s come a long way from her days of looking like she walked out of a bad prom photo — these comfy-looking cocktail dresses are casual and flattering, youthful yet sophisticated. It proves there is middle ground between a full-on ball gown and wearing a tank top that hangs off your nipples while half an ass cheek falls out of your formal shorts. Now if only she would teach a seminar to Lindsay “Leggings” Lohan and the cast of The Hills.

New spy comedy opens in Hong Kong on August 7.
Get Smart, the new Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway movie, finally makes it to Hong Kong on August 8th.
Some of you may remember the original TV series with Don Adams/Agent 86 and Barbara Feldon/Agent 99 that poked fun at the super-spy genre of the 1960’s. Definitely one of our favorite shows when we were kids - hey he had a mobile phone in his shoe - is now back starring the ‘40-Year Old Virgin’ and boss of ‘The Office’ in the role as Maxwell Smart and of course you all know the lovely Ms. Hathaway from ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ and as the face of Lancome.
See the trailer below, and keep an eye out for more goodies from Warner Bros. Hong Kong that we will be posting as we work towards its opening in 4 weeks time:
