Chanel presents “Country Chic”

If fashion shows and collections are supposed to take us on a journey, then it’s safe to say that Karl Lagerfeld has bought us a ticket to a fancy barn! The setting was decidedly ‘country’ at Chanel’s 2010 Spring show, complete with hay but no bumpkins, we promise!
Instead, Karl gave us a lesson on country charm and elegance; punctuated with details of basket weave, ruffles, aprons and florals. Feel-good silhouettes like puffed shoulders and full skirts were in full bloom and, just like the countryside, colors remained natural and uncomplicated with lots of black, whites and soft pinks. Flighty clothes were complemented with sturdy wooden clogs and, just to twist things up a bit more, Karl introduced a bit of black lace to the equation – bringing an unmistakable Chanel touch right to the barnyard!

Because you should be comfortable in your shoes.
We love the gorgeous shoes that Jimmy Choo, Louboutin and Guiseppe create, you know, the 4 inches stilettos that makes you look instantly taller and fabulous. However, sometimes you need shoes that you can walk in for more than an hour pain-free, so you can do your power shopping during the sale season comfortably.
Not to compromise on style, ballerina flats are a definite staple in any girl’s shoe collection. We’ve checked out a couple of ballerinas from Repetto, Tods, Chanel and Cole Haan to suit any budget range.
(from top Tods ballerina flats -HK$3500, Chanel ballerinas HK$4800, Repetto designed by Scott Wilson from On Pedder HK$5700)

It’s over-the-top Russian inspiration for Chanel’s Pre-fall collection.

Karl Lagerfeld has taken a page out of Coco Chanel’s love life and transformed it into a collection to be reckoned with. For Pre-fall 2009, the designer’s theme was “Paris-Moscou”, and echoed days of Coco’s relationship with Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich.
The collection was rife of Byzantine and Russian inspiration- intricate embroidery, gilded tiaras, endless sequins and pearls, floaty feathers and layers upon layers of chiffon. These looks were toughened up with heavy furs, cozy fur hats, Cossack inspired boots and a smattering of badges. Colors were strong reds, blacks and whites, evoking the feel of unyielding Russian royalty.
Emerging Trends:
- Strong colors like red, black and white
- Gold embellishment and over-the-top details like feathers and fur
- Soldier and military inspired details like boots, buckles, badges and boxy cuts
Looks we love:
