Part 2: How to Get Whiter Teeth
Our teeth whitening conversation continues with Dr. Andrew Kam.
Last month, we covered home bleaching and in-clinic bleaching as two of the options to getting whiter teeth. This time, we will explore the more permanent treatments of porcelain veneer and an all ceramic crown. Both treatments are available now, by booking an appointment with Dr. Andrew Kam at his office in Central, Hong Kong. Dr. Kam explains these 2 procedures for us:
1. Porcelain veneer
This treatment is recommended when the teeth are heavily discolored or if you would like to do a minor reshaping of your teeth. Porcelain veneer treatment is where a thin slice of porcelain is cemented onto the tooth surface. Here you can control the shape and shade of whiteness you want your teeth to be in. Your original teeth colour does not factor in to the level of whiteness that can be achieved as in the case with bleaching. Scientific studies have shown that over 90% of well constructed veneers can last for ten years or longer. On the minus side, your dental surgeon will have to shave of some of your teeth to allow the porcelain to be fixed onto so it is more intrusive and it costs lots more than bleaching.
