Celebrity of the Week: Michelle Yeoh

From ballerina to kung fu movie star to style icon.

Michelle Yeoh was born in Malaysia on August 6,1962. As a child, she studied ballet but an injury prevented her from pursuing dreams of becoming a ballerina. After winning the Miss Malaysia beauty pageant in 1983, she started doing commercials before getting into films.

Michelle’s focus on work saw her starring in action and martial arts films like Police Story 3,The Heroic Trio,Tai Chi Master and Wing Chun with Hong Kong’s best actors including Jackie Chan and Jet Li. On an international scale, she is also known, having been in blockbusters like Tomorrow Never Dies,Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Summer’s Most Glamourous Dress

For an ultra feminine and glamorous dress, check out the one shoulder dress.

Surely you’ve noticed by now that the one-shoulder trend is back and ruling the runways and store displays. Ever wonder where this silhouette hails from?

Interestingly enough, the one-shoulder style dates back to Ancient Rome to the  toga dress. This asymmetrical style was made famous in the seventies when American designer Halston, style maker and designer known for making effortlessly glamorous dresses during the Studio54 disco era created the draped jersey one-shoulder dress.

Today designers are picking up on the resurgence of the one-shoulder dress with Lanvin, Alberta Ferretti doing their own interpretation of the one-shoulder number last year.  Here are some of Butterboom’s pick from Chloe, Calvin Klein, Halston, Lanvin and Roksanda Illicic.
