The Mastercard Luxury Week Hong Kong 2008 extravaganza ended last Saturday and now they’ve done a final tally, it seems that it was a smashing success with over 6000 VIP’s attending the 5 day event including celebrities like reigning Miss World Miss China: Zhang Zilin, Yvette Yuen, Lelia Chow, DoDo Cheng, Renia Chau and Carl Ng.

- Over 6000 VIP guests attended MasterCard Luxury Week Hong Kong 2008 including 200 Celebrities and socialites who walked the red carpet.

- The models walked a collective distance of 38.5km along the catwalk

- 840 designer outfit changes were made by the models

- 630 pairs of luxury designer shoes and boots were used to strut down the runway

- Official make up sponsor Shu Uemura used 16 make up artists to apply 6 Dovarieties of false eye lashes totaling over 100 sets.

- Toni & Guy deployed 40 hair stylists to create 600 hair doos for the runway

- 1001 bottles of champagne were drunk by VIP guests

- Godiva Chocolatier served 13,000 pieces of chocolates and 4,000 tubs of ice cream.

- San Pellegrino served no less than 6000 bottles of water

- A total of over HK$15 million worth of Tiffany jewellery was worn by MasterCard Fashion Ambassador Denise Keller – and we thought everything was supposed to be “priceless”

This is it! Our final piece of coverage of the 2008 Mastercard Luxury Week in Hong Kong and this final new show brought out an exciting collection from designer Vera Wang.

Vera Wang’s fall collection is inspired by modernist painter Kees van Dongen, late 18th century flamboyant Dutch painter who is famous for his use of flashy, bright colours to paint his favourite subject matter – sailors and prostitutes.

A gorgeous collection featuring lots of jewel toned colours in satin, organza and chiffon. It was edgy and romantic at the same time. Dresses were long, loose fitting with interesting layers, florets, poufs and beautiful accessorized metal collars and embellishments. The effects is an elegant elongated silhouette that exudes understate luxury.

We love the burnish autumn colours of yellow gold, tomato red and dark green on her dreamy dresses. Vera always uses the most gorgeous colours! Tight fitting satin pants worn with short tunic tops nipped at the waist and little short dresses with knots and folds here and there gave the collection a deconstructed edgier look.

Luxury Week 2008: Vera Wang

We start the final day of the Mastercard Luxury Week Hong Kong 2008 with Kenzo. For his fall collection, designer Antonio Marras takes inspiration from the Japanese Wabi-sabi aesthetics where elaborate reinterpretation of volumes and shapes combined with a range of different materials resulted in new beautiful shapes. Drawing from the shape of the Japanese “Yukata” (a casual summer kimono dressing gown), were dramatic beautifully shaped loose fitted short dresses in wool jacquard and duchess satin.

Kenzo’s ability to re-create new original silhouettes and push the boundaries is what makes this an
exciting brand to watch. Kenzo’s Autumn Winter collection spotted bold splashes of graphic prints against anise green, yellow and autumn’s colour of black and grey. Anise green and pink is an unusual colour combination but it seems to work in Antonia Marras’s expert hand!

We’re counting down to the final day of the Mastercard Luxury Week Hong Kong 2008 with SportMax, Donna Karan and Oscar de la Renta filling out the shows on Friday.

Oscar de la Renta famous for designing elegant clothing like the classic cocktail dress and beautiful ball gowns is truly a master in his class. The preciseness in cut and silhouette on the full flowy gowns in luxurious jewel tone silk and layers of champagne tulle were simply beautiful. There were many show stopping moments when the gowns made their presence. The bright blue ruffled gown and jeweled embroidery champagne tulle gown worn under a bronze sherling were absolutely stunning.

For day wear, Oscar de la Renta, shows off beautifully sculpted cocktail dresses and full skirts paired with shaped cashmere and knitted tops in fall colours – amethyst purple and emerald green. There was so many pieces to covet, the high waist full-leg trousers in black and jewel tone, red ruffle silk top knee-length skirts.

Day 3 of the Mastercard Luxury Week Hong Kong 2008 has just wrapped, with daytime showings from Paul & Shark and BCBG MAXAZRIA, but the fashionistas and celebutantes of Hong Kong were out in full force for the Marc Jacobs fall collection show last night.

Clearly inspired by the 80′s rebellious punk era with Sonic Youth blasting over the loudspeakers. There were short little dresses in black with dashes of muted colours like yellow, green, pink, red and purple in graphical plaid and cubic cuts worn with a lot of attitude. Everyone was checking out the boots at this show. The black ankle boots with coloured leather trimmings looks like a potential best seller this fall. The Marc Jacobs show featured both Marc by Marc Jacobs, the brand’s younger line and Marc Jacobs. But what was up with the one model with the cloth mask/bag on her head? See what we mean in the photos below.

Marc Jacobs fall collection is the complete contrast of Marc, very minimalistic and rather austere. Jackets and dresses in very pale pastel colours were elongated and everything was purposely oversized outfits and loose.

La Perla has been selling their Italian made undergarment in Hong Kong since June 2006. Today with 2 stand alone stores and distribution in Lane Crawford in Hong Kong, they’ve really come out of the closet by putting on just about the sexiest show at the Mastercard Luxury Week Hong Kong 2008!

We know this is the show many of the banker boys were waiting for. It didn’t matter that the show started at almost 11pm this was one of the most anticipation shows at Luxury Week.

La Perla lingerie is a combination of glamour and superior quality, that’s what’s special about our lingerie – Andrea Bonardi, the Managing Director of La Perla in Asia, I would like to add, tasteful too!

Diane von Furstenberg has a lot of fans in Hong Kong as evidenced by the turnout for Day 2 of the Mastercard Luxury Week Hong Kong 2008 (see full coverage at this link) being held at the Four Seasons hotel in Central. We love how Fursteberg’s dresses makes us look so glamorous and all business like at the same time. Diane von Furstenberg is in her element with this Marlene Dietrich, forties inspired collection. Titled “Foreign Affair” the Hong Kong models including Rosemary Vandenbrouke and Eunice Chan played their parts as femme fatales in glamorous silk jacquard evening gowns and beaded flapper dress to great effect.

There were so many things to love from this collection! Fitted short sleeveless cardigans, tight fitted jackets and military coats were paired with soft printed blouse and worn with dresses, A-lined skirts or wide pants. Even the accessories were great! The skinny belt and thick heeled shoes in suede, velvet and leather trimmings with metalic undersole pulled all the outfits together.

What we liked from Diane von Furstenberg? Most everything.

Favorite Diane von Furstenberg outfit? Jewel colour dresses in emerald green and shocking pink paired with long sleeveless knit and tight fitted wool jackets.

It has returned! Get ready for the MasterCard Luxury Week Hong Kong 2008, to be held August 26-30 at The Four Seasons Hotel in Central, Hong Kong.

MasterCard Fashion Ambassador Denise Keller added some extra glamour to the media launch, with the help of local super models Lisa S and Ana R. providing a sneak peek at the Fall/Winter 2008 collections that will be featured in the some of the participants’ runway shows of including BCBGMAXARIA, Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs and Donna Karen.

The schedule includes 14 runway shows over five days with state-of-the-art custom built venue featuring a reception/hospitality area and collection show room boasts a 26-metre long runway and a capacity of 420 seats for each show.
