We sit down with founder Joanne Ooi and her newest fashion venture.

Plukka.com launched yesterday worldwide and is the brainchild of former Shanghai Tang creative director Joanne Ooi, and the concept is quite exciting for jewellery shoppers.
In a nutshell: Plukka offer stylish, fine designer jewellery at affordable prices to a crowd of shoppers – so if you like something you buy it, but the more people buy it the lower the price goes. And this is great designer looking stuff!

Shanghai Tang’s pop-up stores across Central.

As you’ll know, Shanghai Tang has vacated their flagship store at Pedder Building due to skyrocketing rents (a 250% increase to HK$7 million a month!) So, instead they’ve planned a series of pop-up stores, sort of like a Mongolian nomad journey across various locations in Central, prior to opening their new flagship store.

Central is becoming a hotbed for U.S. fashion brands.

We don’t know what is bigger news: the fact that Abercrombie and Fitch is coming to Hong Kong or that they are paying HK$7 million a month in rent to take over Shanghai Tang’s 6,300 square foot Pedder Street location, or that the 7-storey building was bought for HK$5 million in 1962!

The perfect balance of love and restraint.

Shanghai Tang’s new ad campaign perfectly embodies the love restraint theme it is based on. Famous fashion photographer Richard Ramos succeeds in capturing the intensity of these two emotions through Chinese supermodel Sun Fei Fei and rising male model Takashi Watanabe, while still showing the clothes off to perfection against a most romantic backdrop.
We’re so impressed with this campaign and personally think it beats a lot of the international brands we’ve seen so far Spring 2010. Let us know if you feel the same…
