As one of Hong Kong’s most important lyricists and songwriters for today’s generation, most of us will know Wyman Wong mainly for his music.

However, aside from his musical genius, Wyman is also a highly regarded fashion columnist and trendsetter. His recent costume design stint for Eason Chan’s Moving On Stage 1’s concert earned him such cred with the Hong Kong fashion community that, in his latest fashion venture, he has teamed up with Pedder Red, Hong Kong’s hip shoe retailer, to bring us the Wyman Wong Collection.

Launched last Saturday, October 10th, this collection is inspired by four of who he calls the most influential designers of today: Martin Margiela, Christophe Decarnin, Oscar de la Renta and Yves Saint Laurent. Wyman loves their work and has aptly named each of his shoes after them.

Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto Conquers Central

Monday. 14 September. 2009. 11:40 am

Fashionistas hit the humid streets of Hong Kong on Saturday.

As we posted last week, Yves Saint Laurent held their yearly Manifesto launch in 6 cities around the world and Hong Kong is one of the 3 Asian cities to participate (Tokyo and Seoul being the others.) And no crazy thunderstorms, heatwaves or high-percentage humidity was going to hold back Hong Kong’s fashionistas, as tons of people lined up from Queen’s Road Central all the way up to the Fringe Club this past Saturday morning to grab a copy and a bag from white-and-black outfitted YSL promotion girls.

Last year’s was not as crazy, but it was raining so maybe rain scares away the fashionistas more than the humidity. Thanks to Butterboom reader Edwin for sending us these snapshots of the chaos on Wyndham this past Saturday:

YSL Roady Bag

YSL _ ROADY-Nappa-_butterboom

We’ve always been fans of classic shapes and clean lines on bags. Let’s face it, it’s really these bags that stand the test of time, and the ones we end up using again and again. We were thrilled when Yves Saint Laurent recently showed bags that fit these criteria.

The YSL Roady is essentially a hobo bag made of soft luxurious nappa leather. It is the chain braiding details on the sides that make this bag unique from any other black hobo bag. A great sling-on bag that will last for years.

Yves Saint Laurent Le Sixieme Chain Bag

A not so usual flap-bag with industrial details.

YSL-Macadam_butterboom

There seems to be no stopping the box flap bag trend. Everywhere you look, there is another version available. Yves Saint Laurent has come out with their own.

The Le Sixieme Chain Bag takes your usual box flap shape and vamps it up with industrial details. Two silver screws make up the closure of the bag, and a metal chain with different-sized links make up the handle. It’s certainly these touches that give the Le Sixieme a hard edge and steer it away from the usual girly image of the flap.
