Step into some gladiatorial footwear this summer.

Gladiator sandals have been a summer staple for as long as we can remember, but this season they have reached epic proportions. Knee-grazing gladiators were all over the Spring/Summer 2013 runways, from Alexander Wang to Versace, with heel heights ranging from flat to sky-high.
We have rounded up our favourite variations on the trend, including 3.1 Phillip Lim’s wearable take on the statement gladiator and an affordable high-street version for those of you that are not quite convinced.

Every summer a bright sharp colour emerges as a trend, this summer, light up the room with bright yellows. Go for structured, tailored pieces a la J Crew. Mesmerizing bridal gowns aside, Vera Wang had romantic flowing layers in yellow. It was sleek and sophisticated at Monique Lhuillier, with a bell shaped skirt and lace belt. Oscar de la Renta was full on girly and youthful with a sweetheart neckline and a frilly hem.

Neutralise your colourful spring wardrobe with the minimal palette of white.

It’s not cream, not ivory nor beige; it’s just clean pristine white, simple as that. Graphical masculine or frilly girlish, white is the fail proof colour for Spring/ Summer 2012.
Leelee Sobieski wowed the crowds at the Vanity Fair Tribeca Film Festival party with a graphic statement white dress from Jil Sander. Karl Lagerfeld had a youthful but domesticated Stepford wife in mind at Fendi. Dries Van Noten had clean boyish tailoring with three-piece suits. Phoebe Philo at Celine was thinking very sculptural and three-dimensional shapes.

The Rodarte sisters took this trend to the max with mega high shine dynamite platforms. Whereas Marc Jacobs had a more demure space-age motif going on with silver accented pointed mules at Louis Vuitton. City chic was what Tomas Maier had in mind for Bottega Vaneta and flat strappy sandals felt just right with the aquatic theme at Chanel.

Vera Wang mixed wet suit with trendy peplum for an athletic chic look. Alexander Wang amped up the need for speed with body conscious fitted cycling gear and helmets. Wave like appliqués on asymmetric dresses and tops; mesh tank tops and flowing trousers all suggested an active character for the McCartney girl. Newly appointed creative directors at Kenzo, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim debuted their Spring 2012 collection with a sporty revamp of the label with zip-up hoodies, tracksuit jackets, parkas and boxy jackets.
